Autoclaving liquids presents some unique challenges. Sterilization cycles for liquid loads take a longer time to complete since liquids have a high heat capacity. As opposed to solids, liquids take a lot longer to heat up and cool down, and the total cycle time is increased dramatically as a result. When autoclaving liquids, certain cycle features can be incorporated into the sterilization process to optimize its efficiency and sterilization effectiveness.

Brand New FDM Climatic and Environmental Chambers

FDM is an Italian company specializing in manufacturing equipment for environmental climatic simulation and control. FDM offers both standard and customized solutions for your Climatic and Environmental Testing Requirements.

Climatic Testing:

The Climatic Chamber simulates and enables managing real environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and sometimes light.

A climatic chamber can be used for different tests involving the regulation of environmental conditions including stability, shelf-life testing, stress testing, photostability testing etc

What variables are involved in a climatic test?

Temperature, humidity and, in some specific cases, illumination. These parameters are the three main ones that characterize a climatic chamber. How?

Controlled temperature and humidity must replicate the conditions present in the natural environment.

Temperature within the chamber is controlled via a heating and cooling system. Good temperature uniformity is important to ensure the products are exposed to the same temperature during the test period regardless of their location within the chamber.

Humidity is also a fundamental variable to manage along with temperature. Humidity levels within the chamber are regulated through the generation of water vapour. FDM’s Climatic chambers are equipped with a specific humidification device that allows strict control of the humidity levels during the test.

To conduct a successful test, temperature and humidity must be constant and homogeneous throughout the entire duration of the test and regardless of the load inside the chamber.

What can be tested with a climate chamber?

The range of products to be tested is various, below are some of the most important application areas:

  • Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical
  • Food
  • Textile
  • Military/Aerospace
  • Electronic components
  • Automotive
  • Construction and building materials

Environmental Testing:

The Environmental Chamber is a climatic chamber that was developed to perform "extreme" climatic testing.

Environmental Testing typically involves larger temperature ranges from -40° and in some cases -70°up to +180°. Humidity conditions can also range from 0%R.H. up to 98%R.H.

Dynamic or cyclic testing can also be performed where the products are exposed to extreme low and high temperature and humidity conditions within the same cycle.

What variables are invovled in environmental testing?

Similar to climatic testing, temperature, humidity and, in some specific cases, illumination. The environmental chamber was developed to reproduce extreme test conditions.

Temperature within the chamber is controlled via a heating and cooling system. Good temperature uniformity is important to ensure the products are exposed to the same temperature during the test period regardless of their location within the chamber. An environmental chamber with a fast heating and cooling rate ensures the chamber can reach the set-points quickly within the cycle.

Humidity is also a fundamental variable to manage along with temperature. Humidity levels within the chamber are regulated through the generation of water vapour. FDM’s Environmental chambers are equipped with a specific humidification device that allows strict control of the humidity levels during the test.

To conduct a successful test, the chamber must be able to reach and maintain its temperature and humidity set-points quickly and accurately throughout the entire duration of the test and regardless of the load inside the chamber.
